Since 2015, Hephatha has partnered with the city of Milwaukee, Ascension Health Care, and other congregations in working closely with over 40 families and 200 children to reduce infant mortality, especially among families of color. This includes peer support, prayer, the sharing of diapers and food, lead poisoning education, and the distribution of filtration pitchers.
This fall, Hephatha celebrated this ministry with community events and worship on their annual Strong Baby Sanctuary Sabbath weekend. The ministry will also be highlighted nationally in February as part of ELCA African Descent Ministries‘ 2023 Black History Month video series.
